Birds of America

ks6bb This is a gorgeous album. Totally now, while reminiscent of the best pop from decades past. Beautiful echoes of St Etienne, Broadcast, Cocteau, Dubstar. Within a pop realm it holds a timeless quality, with its dreamy lo-fi pallet of sounds, infectious bass and drums, and compelling vocals. Each piece creates a world to inhabit. For me these worlds are tinged with a sort of nostalgia for a time that never really was, though they are not limited to this. I return to this album again and again. Favorite track: The Cross of Lorraine.

VV 04:18
Some time ago you tried your hand you were afraid of losing face the other boys distracted him and gave you time to get away Having no home nor means for one you kept it near you all the time the other boys protected you and made no mention of your crime The dance of the rich never pleases the poor and change comes slow or not at all In later years their memories weigh heavy on your waking hours forever young and distant from the ravages of time Your camera the vehicle by which you made your escape an exit so impossible such are the mysteries of fate
2.
Julia's Call 03:37
You crane your neck around fastened to the seat there's a car that follows and your name's been marked everyone must have the list You could try to move to another town with younger people to replace your friends you could turn your tail and run What is this force what is this pride like moths we seek the light only to burn in flame What is this pull holding your gaze is it our nature that we run into the fire
3.
That's not the way out don't hold your breath the landscape voices sudden movement and distance to triangulate one in a million one of your own that won't stop her getting even in the only way she can It will be cold out there and oh so silent the little waves you send echoing back On the approach no position found the low sunlight falls on the view and reveals a sense of something wrong you start to quake and clench your fists cruel deceit upon the evening thick foreboding in the air It will be cold out there and oh so silent the little lights you burn flickering out
4.
Dumped into the back you packed your bags and now you lie in wait for the fog to arrive Slipping through the night have you got the right tool for the job Or must you improvise The task at hand there's always agency in change your time has arrived don't you loose your nerve don't give up the cause Coming to the town a place you promised never to return but promises can be broken Crossing through the streets the windows dark the air it is so cold will you do what you've been told The task at hand there's always agency in change your time has arrived don't you loose your nerve don't give up the cause Coloring your lens moving in to harden your resolve and the moon is on the rise Coming to the door you get the feeling that you're on the edge then a shadow appears The task at hand there's always agency in change your time has arrived don't you loose your nerve don't give up the cause
5.
Radiant City 04:03
Now that I know the reach of my hand the lay of the line the weight of my will nothing's sacred here Time and again the senseless decor unnecessary excess of ornament and crime Forever in the formative state the radiant city beckoning on Don't you know it's for the good of all the question must be answered considering the world to come the question must be answered
6.
Oh creature the echo of your call dead in the water like a broken bell it's all I have to remind me little more One feather the perfect shade of opal is all I have to remind me little more It was a crime unto nature and all we know laid in wait forty long days and nights I lured you my lowly hide Over here At long long last our hour arrived net in hand clambering grab to the starlight I fear you'll sing no more
7.
Four arms to hold you three eyes to take you in you're fearful when you see me you fear i'll keep you in Well you can blame me for the roaring storm well it's the storm that keeps the dogs away you say i'm a monster what do you know You accuse my eyes of evil Say my arms are prone to sin you're fearful of my color of the ghost that let you in They tried to drown me in the ocean and so my throat, it turned to blue you say I'm a monster what do you know So you found yourself a way to slip right through my door where you caught me in my sleep and held me to the floor But when you found me both man and woman you shrieked and you lept right from the room you say I'm a monster what do you know Shall I close my eye to please you cut my arms off with a knife will you recognise my features recognise my face Well all along I've change my image to fit with what I thought you'd want you say I'm a monster
8.
Looking into the void you're reckoning with the question and the city looms too far to see now you're a satellite taken by a wayward pull The quaking side of patience trying long to ignore the storm such an ego you can't question the course the winds of war always in your ear Dusk begins to fall and your mind now starts to sense the path of ultimate resistance Who could touch you there with the fare paid full in advance the cost of taking chances
9.
White Wall 04:35
Poor you broken boy the wrong room the wrong hour cold April thunderstorm drove you here Black flash shattered glass the burnt air the warped floor slowly you come around to the scene No, no there you go hung like a mirror on a white wall look around here and there destroyed listen to the noise remember where you were before from there plain sailing home through the city ten million souls cut around to and fro hello… open up the door surely she'll be standing there It's much clearer now time moving ever so slow she's neither here or there it appears ring in hand bird in the bag don't leave it there don't leave it there through ruined halls return to the rain
10.
Westway 03:51
It was the wrong time to rattle round your door a fateful night pressed to decide how to turn Now they never will discover where you are they waylaid life forced out of sight careful now For the record it wasn't ever really up to you the way forward better unsaid I know what to do The thought of your suffering too much to bear you can't follow me but whatever you do don't stay here Looking in the rear view it's all i see the dim lit, long receding road oh hurry now don't change your mind there's no time to spare Circling the Westway over the long sprawl of the city below foot to the floor flying over in a blaze of fire then out into the sea to erase my whole world in a moment of forfeit that's what you meant to me
